Why are drivers not allowed to use their mobile phones, but it's okay?
In the majority of US states its *illegal* to Text while driving. There is a patchwork quilt of laws of hands free only for talking on your phone vs you can hold your phone while talking. As for ride hailing apps, as long as one is using their phone in the passive mode, and for navigation, which is the primary purpose on the drivers side of the app, its technically legal to do. Now I have reported a driver in the past who was clearly in violation of the law and almost certainly company policy for using his phone for personal use, texting, playing on various non-Uber/Lyft apps, etc. Not to mention driving like a person with a death wish.
